Dreary Monday

Sorry about not posting here for a few months. Work has been pretty hectic for me lately. Often times I was working between 8 a.m.-8 p.m. but things seemed to have slowed down for me, for now.

It was dark when I woke up this morning. I thought maybe my alarm was malfunctioning but nope, it was time to get up for work. :P I was feeling pretty drained and wanted to get some work done for my PHP class, so I thought about calling in sick to work and using a sick day, but I decided against it because I thought I should try to be productive today and I figured I wouldn't be productive at home. There were plenty of days when I was sick and went to work anyways, though, due to wanting to meet software release deadlines. *shrug* Maybe I shouldn't have gone to work due to possibly getting other people sick, but I wasn't coughing or sneezing that much, I just had the aches/fever/sore throat/lightheadedness. I haven't taken an actual sick day from work in over three years.

I have been playing WoW a lot recently, roughly about 35-40 hours each week. I'm trying to keep things running smoothly during the last three pre-WoTLK weeks. People seem more interested in playing now, because of the 3.0.2. changes/Halloween event/Scourge event stuff. The guild's gone from an average of 4-10 people online on weekend afternoons (a time when the guild is usually dead since most people are out with their kids/spouse etc.), to up to 25 people online on weekend afternoons.

I plan to scale back my playing this week so I can work on my php homework, though. I've only got 26 days left before I need to finish my last homework assignment and the "project". It should be easy enough to do, if I can actually focus. I spent most of yesterday vegging out in bed because I was tired and feeling congested. However, I didn't actually sleep until 1 a.m. Ugh.

I also need to update my resume this week. I haven't updated it since I got laid off from Digital Rights Agency (which was a year ago). Last November, I paid 275 dollars for a professional resume review but I never submitted the questionnaire. I should go do that this week.

A couple of weeks ago I ordered some pants from Macy's through Amazon.com. I looked on the website a week later to check the order status, and it said that UPS said they delivered it. However, I did not recieve any packages that week. I sent Macy's a letter through Amazon.com and they answered today confirming that UPS delivered the package on 10/16, but that Macy's sent another package this morning free of charge. Now that's remarkable customer service. :)

Anyways I guess I should actually try to get some work done, though I don't have anything assigned to me at the moment.

My laptop has been overheating and shutting down, so I broke out my old laptop cooling stand that I got from Aidata.

Unfortunately, the cooling stand didn't seem to work anymore, and it was also noisy as heck, so I bought a new laptop cooling stand:

Also, I bought this:

because I thought I could use the compressed air to clear out my laptop's vents. Well, I sprayed into one of the vents, and I saw some dust come out, so that was good. Then I sprayed into the other vent, and a bunch of liquid came out! My eyes bug out and I'm going oh shit, what the heck is going on here? I thought I paid for air, not water? I click on the laptop (not worrying about the possibility of shorting it out) and much to my relief, the laptop turns on. But I was definitely freaked out there for a moment, as I almost lost a 4,000 dollar laptop due to a 5 dollar can of "air".

Stepping into the 21st century

Yes, I went and bought an HDTV last week, and it arrived yesterday.   I haven't owned a TV since 2005, so this is significant for me.

Why have I not had a TV?  I haven't felt a need to watch TV live in the past few years.  If I felt like I needed to keep up with a TV series, or watch a movie, I'd watch it on my computer instead.   The downside of watching TV/movies on the computer is the smaller screen size, but I haven't found that to be a drawback, unless I have friends over.  And when I do have friends over, it's usually not for watching TV or movies.

Of course, not having a TV meant that I couldn't play any console games, but I've been content with my PC, and Ninteno DS/Sony PSP for my gaming fix.   But seeing how much fun people are having with Wii, it encouraged me to buy a Wii, and a TV as well.   It's a big expense but I think it'll be worth it!

This is the TV I ordered:

I just checked and it's $50.00 off this week.  o.O
