I was feeling hungry for something different than the usual Lean Cuisine orange chicken/chicken fetticine routine, so I preheated the oven, and popped in a California Pizza Kitchen garlic chicken pizza. I put in the pizza for 20 minutes, thinking it'd be a delicious morsel when I got back, but then I returned to the kitchen to find the pizza was a smoldering, blackened mess. This morning, I was rudely awakened by smell of "burning" still lingering in my kitchen like that college friend who's overstayed his welcome at the party, and can't/won't take the hint to go away.
I didn't fall asleep until 1:30 a.m. last night, and woke up around 6:30 a.m. I have a hard time getting to bed at a reasonable hour on weekdays, because of the caffeine I drink. Then I feel sleepy during the daytime, and I drink more caffeine to feel awake. It's a vicious cycle.
I have actual WORK to do today. A co-worker asked me about an SFTP access issue; one of his accountholders couldn't log into the SFTP server to upload a file. I log into the SFTP server and I discover I don't have root access to the server anymore, so I can't do much. The co-worker glowers at me frustratedly as I explain I can't change passwords anymore. Then another co-worker asked me about a spyware issue. He was unable to log into his desktop (it just displayed "Warning: Spyware Detected. Install antivirus software". It turns out he downloaded a video viewer on Mininova. :P I don't have admin access to these computers. The sole person who has admin access to the computers here, left this company two months ago. He's working for another company upstairs in the same guild, and our company has been paying him as a "consultant" to come in and fix problems on his free time. That's a cushy job situation - getting paid to work two jobs during the span of one job's workday.
I ordered the textbooks for my PHP class last night. I'm psyched about this class. I think that knowledge of PHP (and later, Javascript) will help me get out of my career rut.
I'm still debating whether I want to go to the company farewell party on Friday.
Pros: Opportunity for socializing and networking.
Cons: I've been working at this company for six months, and I don't feel like I really know anymore here. Everyone who's still working here, has known each other for least a year and a half. I went to the company farewell party for my last company, and I wish I hadn't. It was awkward, even though I'd been working there for almost a year and a half. I was the only "engineer" at the party - everyone else was in marketing or label relations.
Oh who am I kidding - I'm just not cut out for going to parties. :(
